5 Ways to Alleviate Wedding Stress

Where the sun meets the sea is where you will find us! Here at Couture Events, we love the idea of destination weddings that can just be enjoyed and soaked up. It doesn’t matter if you are getting married in Cabo or Lake Como, we have seen our fair share of stressed out brides and grooms and we believe it doesn’t need to be that way! When you decide you want a destination wedding, you are wanting to leaving stress behind, long to enjoy every moment and bask in the love and excitement of your day. Whether you elope or bring 100 guests to the destination, we want you to enjoy every second of it!

5 Tips to Fully Enjoy Your Destination Wedding:

1. Arrive early and stay late!

If you are having guests and are able to arrive before them you will be able to get settled, calm your own nerves and feel comfortable before they arrive. Even if it’s just two days before, it will give you time to feel grounded before you welcome the element of guests, their questions and their opinions. If you are eloping we still suggest arriving early to your destination so you don’t feel rushed…you want to be able to soak it in. After the wedding stay later – you chose this destination for a reason. Instead of rushing out to go on a honeymoon, we suggest making your destination part of your honeymoon. Stay a while, linger, say farewell to your guests, and enjoy some time in this special place as a couple.

2. Take advantage of this time and take extra photos!

You are already looking and feeling your best. We suggest doing a bridal styled shoot the morning of your wedding (in a pretty robe or sweet lingerie). It will get you comfortable with your photographer, make you feel confident, sexy and ready to see your soon-to-be spouse. We love creating and styling these for our brides, as these photos will make for special memories. We believe the more photos and fun, the better. It should be a fun and exciting experience. We also suggest doing a first look so you can get more photos with your betrothed, especially right after the bridal session, it only elevates the actual walk down the aisle.

3. Don’t worry, be happy!

Words of wisdom from Bob Marley! No, but seriously, if you are worried about things like your set up, vendors or guests, you will only stress yourself out. It will not add anything special to your wedding. You have to be able to trust everyone involved, so that is why we emphasize hiring a planner you can trust! You will also have guests texting you or calling you with questions. You have to let that go. They will figure things out on their own…they are grown adults and can get themselves to and through the wedding day. I sometimes wish I could just take a bride or groom’s phone away on their wedding day. You don’t need Uncle Ted asking if he can wear his tropical print shirt or Aunt Susie asking about where she can get a snack before the wedding. Many times guests feel like they are helping by telling you things that you might be missing or needing. You have to let that roll off your back and seriously just be happy! If you enjoy your day, your friends, family and guests will too. If you show that you are worried, they will be too!

4. Have a weather back-up plan!

There can be a chance of rain even in the most desirable destinations. Make sure you have a “plan B” in place! We always encourage our couples to find a destination that has an incredible plan A (outdoor space) and plan B (indoor space), just in case. Ideally, you want to be just as happy with plan B as you would be with plan A. We have seen weather ruin days because the couple is upset…don’t let this happen. Plan it out! It is possible to find a place that has wonderful options for both.

5. Hire Professionals!

Yes, we obviously believe you should have a professional planner. The coordinator at the hotel or location is there for the location first-and-foremost, not exclusively for you. We as an outside planner are there for you and to make sure things get set up and flow correctly for your day. We also believe you should hire a professional travel agent or consultant. The wedding planner is there to plan the events for the wedding, but it’s also nice to have someone thinking about transportation, room blocks and experiences outside of the wedding. If you hire a professional wedding planner and travel consultant, the rest will fall into place as they will be able to find you local vendors or destination vendors to bring in to make the entire wedding weekend and experience spectacular.

5 Ways to Strengthen Your Bond!

5 Ways Happy Couples Make Relationship Work Look Effortless

From annoying pet peeves to anger fueled arguments, anyone who has been in a relationship past the honeymoon phase knows that staying in love takes work. But there’s always that one couple who makes it all look so easy. How do they do it? Don’t be fooled, these happy couples work on their relationships just like the rest of us do – they’ve just figured out which little things make the biggest impact and they do them regularly. Here are the secrets to how these happy couples make relationship work look effortless.

5 Ways to Strengthen Your Relationship:

1. They Appreciate Each Other At Least Once A Day.
Love and happiness can only grow when each partner feels appreciated. Happy couples make a point of expressing appreciation at least once a day to their partner. It can even be for little things like getting you a cup of coffee, bringing out the garbage or giving the kids a bath.

2.  They Cultivate Friendships Outside Of Their Marriage.
One person cannot fulfill all of our needs and when our partner feels the pressure of having to be all things to us, they begin relating from a place of obligation rather than joy. Becoming enmeshed in just one relationship is unhealthy and can lead to resentment. Besides, when we have interests outside of each other, it can make us more interesting and will lead to more fruitful conversations.

3. They Make An Effort With Their Appearance.
I know this might strike a chord, but if the only time you make an effort with your appearance is to impress strangers at a public event or when going to work, that is your cue to ask "Why am I making an effort for these people, but not my partner?" Happy couples set aside one day a week where they dress like they're going somewhere special with their partner (even if they’re just staying in).

4. They Ask This Question Every Day. "How can I make your day easier today?"
With all of the hustle and bustle of life, it’s easy to focus on your own to-do list, but picking one small thing to lighten the load for your partner goes a long way. Perhaps it’s running an errand for them, paying a bill, returning a phone call on their behalf or even tabling conversations that can wait for another day when they return home exhausted.

5. They Schedule Intimacy Into The Calendar.
It's easy to put intimacy aside when your relationship is established, but intimacy is an essential key to happiness in relationships and it needs to be nurtured. Because they know life gets busy, happy couples set aside one night for intimacy into their schedules. It doesn’t have to be sexual; deep conversation, doing something they’ve never done before, going on a walk, back massages and holding hands while watching a movie all count.

This may seem like a lot to take on, so choose an area from above that you know you can begin shifting right now, circle a date on the calendar when you're going to begin and discuss with your partner to make it more fun to do together, but also to prep them for the subtle (positive) shifts that are going to ripple into your evolving happy marriage!

Remember, the grass is greenest where you water it. There will be things in any relationship that will annoy you, but taking care of the important stuff will allow your relationship to flourish. Consider these essential nutrients that keep your grass the greenest in the neighborhood.

Sunny Solvang Destination Wedding

Annie and Aaron’s relationship goes back almost as far as their love affair with Santa Ynez, California. The area is home to a host of small, charming towns and amazing wineries. For their destination wedding, Annie and Aaron chose a private winery in Solvang.

“We chose the winery because we loved its relaxed, beautiful feel,” recalls the couple. “As we toured the winery, a rainbow appeared over the barn. We knew this is where we needed to get married.”

Their family and friends were supportive of the plan and 96 guests joined the couple on their wedding day. The ceremony was held in front of the century-old barn as the sun set over the surrounding vineyards. Having a close friend serve as their officiant added a sentimental touch to an already meaningful ceremony. After Aaron and Annie exchanged vows, their guests showered them with white rose petals.

What makes this wedding extra-special is the way the couple combined a lovely, classic color scheme with unique and rustic details befitting of the barn setting. Such details included a photo booth bus and an antique truck that doubled as a mobile beer bar. Guests were treated to a gorgeous reception set-up with sophisticated table settings juxtaposed by laid-back tunes and decorative elements. “The Bryan Titus Trio kicked off the reception with bluegrass jams and we and our guests enjoyed Santa Maria-style barbeque and local wine,” reflects the couple. After dinner, a DJ took over and the group danced the night away under the Solvang stars.

To thank their guests for coming, Annie and Aaron hosted a variety of pre- and post-wedding events including a meet-and-greet at Solvang Brewing Company and a rehearsal dinner and brunch at Valley Piggery. As for advice, the couple kept it short and simple. “Make sure to make your wedding your own.”

A Costa Rican Destination Wedding

Take one look at Sanjay and Matthew’s destination wedding photos in Guanacaste, Costa Rica and the love jumps right off the screen.

This one-of-a-kind wedding came from a unique story of falling in love. “We met in an anatomy lab during medical school,” laughs the couple, “which could sound sexy/cute in a geeky way if not for all the cadavers around us.”

The two opted for a “same-sex take on an Indian wedding.” And “instead of a traditional ceremony, defined by gender norms, we opted for a non-denominational one officiated by two of our professors and great friends,” recalls the couple.

When it came time to select the destination for their wedding, it wasn’t a tough decision. “Tamarindo was sunny, warm and a reasonably priced place to throw the best week-long party for our family and friends,” explain the newlyweds.

The two relied entirely on their event designer and wedding planner, Aimee Monihan, to make their dream of a big, “summer Gatsby-inspired” party a reality. “Our planning phone calls with her were often the highlight of our week,” the couple admits. “For two chill guys that ultimately just wanted to show up for an amazing week-long party, things couldn’t have been much smoother. She not only exceeded our expectations, but became a good friend,” says the couple.

To give you an idea of just how grand of a party the ceremony was, the grooms rode in on horses in traditional Indian fashion. The reception started in the evening with customized cocktails, a delicious poke bar and elaborate dessert bar. Guests enjoyed a four-course meal on one long dramatic table adorned with silver mirrored runners, black and gold accents and white florals, all under a waterfall of twinkling lights. After dinner, the ultimate dance party began. Everyone was having such an amazing time that when the reception was over, nobody wanted to leave. Their persuasive planner, Aimee, was able to negotiate an extra hour at the venue, so the party could continue.

For a party that never ends, the couple advise to plan pre-wedding events at home so people can meet beforehand. Because guests felt comfortable enough to let loose together, it allowed for a joyful, celebratory atmosphere.

5 Tips to Hire a Wedding Photographer

Planning a destination wedding can feel like a daunting task. Narrowing down the planning process into steps can make it feel more manageable and give you a jumping-off point. Picking your photographer is a huge step and it’s important to know what questions to ask. Wedding photographers have a front seat come w-day, so can also provide an interesting perspective on how to begin your planning. Photographers Justin and Mary have traveled the world photographing weddings and are sharing their “5 Tips for Hiring a Wedding Photographer.”

  1. Pick your big 5

The big 5 are location, photography, food, florist and entertainment, so book those first. These services are the first to book up and are often the most important decision a bride and groom will make for their wedding.

  2. Create a budget for the photographer

Justin and Mary recommend investing in a photographer because a good photographer can make everything look grander and capture your wedding style. For example, a professional can make a small venue appear bigger and make flowers appear more lush.

  3. Assume the style you see is the style you get

Reach out to vendors based on the examples they provide on their website. For example, each photographer has a style they are most comfortable and talented shooting in. It’s risky to request a photographer to change their style because once the pressure of the day is on a photographer, they will most likely resort back to their most natural style. Be willing to look through 42 pages of photographers to find the style you love. Once you find a few you love, start to reach out!

  4. Remember photographers are interviewing you, too

It’s important to reach out and gather information from a handful of photographers, but remember they are also interviewing you. Start building the relationship with your first email by mentioning why you’re reaching out in the first place. Was there a photo on their website you fell in love with? Have you followed their work for a while? This will make you stand out and start the relationship off on the right foot. And, avoid mentioning other photographers in your communication.

  5. Make sure you’re comfortable

A photographer will spend more time with you on your wedding day than your spouse, so make sure you’re comfortable with them. Set up a meeting or coffee date with potential photographers to make sure they are the correct fit. A great question to ask is, what their direction would be for posing. This will help you narrow down who you feel most comfortable with. If it’s a good fit, book it!

How to Repair Damaged Nails

As you know, the latest nail trends like gel and dip powder manicures can leave your nails damaged and weak, but that’s not what a bride wants to hear before her big day. With this in mind, we’re sharing how to repair your nails before getting a wedding day manicure.

LA-based professional manicurist and nail care expert Yasmeen Sandoval knows too well that nail enhancements can lead to all kinds of unwanted side effects like dehydration, weakening and even nail separation from the nail bed! To prevent these harsh side effects, Yasmeen offers the following tips to her clients when their nails are in need of repair.

How to Repair Damaged Nails:

  • Take a break and allow the damaged part of your nails to grow out. Applying a nail strengthener rich in vitamins and antioxidants to your nails a few times a week will also help your natural nails regain some strength. Dermelect’s Natural Nail Repair Kit ($20) is a great set because it includes two treatments that will repair damaged nails.
  • Cut your nails as short as you can. This will remove the thin and weak part of your nail, preventing further damage.
  • Take a biotin vitamin daily to encourage faster, stronger nail growth.
  • If your nails are peeling away from the nail bed, avoid using colored nail polish. This will help you to see if your nails are getting worse or better. However, clear nail polish and strengthening treatments are totally fine and can actually moisturize and strengthen your nails.
  • Keep cuticles moisturized by applying cuticle oil several times per day. I like Dermelect’s REVITAL-OIL Nail & Cuticle Treatment ($14) for its protein peptide treatment. This ultra-moisturizing formula will rehydrate dry, brittle nails and cuticles and restore much-needed moisture balance to your nail bed.
