Discover Romantic Turks and Caicos

If chasing the green flash, dipping your toes into white sand and swimming with tropical fish in truly turquoise water sounds like heaven on earth to you, then consider your honeymoon and destination wedding location on the island of Providenciales in romantic Turks and Caicos.

Surrounded by the majestic natural beauty dreams are made of, this Caribbean island, just a three-and-a-half hour flight from New York City, is a hot spot for destination wedding couples seeking a certain level of urban luxury. When you touch down at Wymara Resort and Villas (formerly Gansevoort Turks + Caicos), perched on the famed Grace Bay Beach, island life is majestic. You and your guests can take over the 91-room property, where everyone gets an ocean view. With plenty of space in each room and fully equipped kitchen suites (which can be stocked prior to your arrival), guests of all ages will be happy here.

If you’re a foodie, you’re in luck. The cuisine on property is a highlight. On Wednesdays, you’ll find a fisherman’s menu at the beachfront restaurant where you select your local seafood and watch chefs prepare it as live local music plays in the background. Guest Services Manager, Brendan O’Neill, describes the local fare. “We have lobster and conch year round. These are some of the key island ingredients we have on the menu. Conch ceviche is a favorite at the hotel.”

Also, stay up late to a DJ spinning tunes in Stelle on Fridays and partake in an all-you-can-eat sushi night twice a week in this indoor/outdoor eatery. Stelle is also home to your included breakfast buffet each morning and is a great location for an after-party on the wedding night.

If you’re on the island on a Thursday night, try the local fish fry that takes place just next door to Wymara Resort. Enjoy live local music, all the conch fritters you can imagine, rum cocktails mixed into freshly cracked coconuts and a night filled with fun under the stars.

Daytime activities are plentiful too, though simply napping on Grace Bay Beach tops many bucket lists. For those who seek underwater sports, a dive at one of the largest barrier reefs in the world is a must-do. Snorkeling is in abundance closer to shore and, if you’re lucky, you might spot JoJo, the island’s famous solitary dolphin who has adopted tourists as his family since separating from his pod as a calf.

To go on the lookout for JoJo, take a group or private boat tour and get picked up right from the resort. Then, get intentionally marooned on a nearby uninhabited island for an afternoon of sun, sand, fresh conch and even a beach party if you choose.

Come wedding day, say “I do” for up to 200 guests on the sand at Wymara Resort and Villas. After all, this is why you came to the famous Grace Bay Beach. Or, consider an intimate wedding alternative at the recently opened Wymara Villas. Just an eight-minute drive from the hotel, the villas provide a completely different hotel-like experience, one ideal for small groups. The four- and five-bedroom oceanfront homes each come complete with two pools and patios, a sunken fire pit lounge area and stairs that lead right into the water. With resort rights and a shuttle to take you to-and-from, a beach ceremony followed by a small cocktail hour and reception in your villa is a match made in heaven.

Come honeymoon time, enjoy the Exhale Spa at the resort, attentive poolside service and all the amenities you could expect from a beachfront vacation hot spot with all the luxuries of city life and views that can’t be beat.

Cabo San Lucas Destination Wedding

In order to capture a relaxed vacation atmosphere on their big day, newlyweds Brittni and Graham headed down to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where they immediately found their dream venue. “We loved it right away,” the couple says. “It was exactly what we were looking for.”

While not all of their guests were able to attend due to the distance, the bride and groom’s experience planning their wedding was far from stressful. “I think it helped that I had a specific vision,” says Brittni.

In order to make the journey for their loved ones easy, the couple uploaded resources for their guests to use. “I put all the information on our wedding website so that guests could refer back to it anytime, such as other events and transportation information,” the bride says.

Aside from help from their wedding planner, the newlyweds say that Pinterest was a big help for inspiration. “Pics help make things come to life,” they say. “It also helps to show your florist and coordinator what your vision is.”

Thank you to this lovely couple for sharing their beautiful wedding photos and providing others with gorgeous Cabo San Lucas inspiration!

A Seaside Mexico Destination Wedding

After feeling inspired by her twin sister’s seaside Mexico destination wedding, bride Janae and her husband Jon decided to say “I do” in the same location of San Jose del Cabo. “It was such a beautiful, romantic, and intimate wedding, and I wanted the same,” the bride says about her sister’s wedding. “After her wedding, this location held such a special place in our family’s hearts.”

Because many of the couple’s loved ones had been to the location previously, they were excited to return. “The family and friends who were unable to attend my sister’s wedding were even more excited to experience what they missed out on years ago,” Janae says. The groom’s family also looked forward to the big day and was excited to experience the location.

Aside from the fact that San Jose del Cabo held a special place in the couple’s hearts, they wanted the chance to spend time with their guests for multiple days. “It’s rare to travel and vacation with numerous friends and family,” the bride says. “Everyone came together and had a blast! We had such a great group of people helping us celebrate our love!”

Overall, planning the newlyweds’ dream wedding was a positive experience. To truly enjoy the location and venue, they decided to keep their wedding simple. “We knew that there might be a few limitations so we kept everything easy,” says Janae. “I am so glad we did a destination wedding; everyone should do it!”

While the bride and her family were already familiar with the venue, Janae admits that having an extra helper would have likely been a huge help. “My only regret is not having my own wedding planner from start to finish,” she says. “A wedding planner would have been there overseeing everything and handling all the big and little things.”

When it came to travel, the couple says that reaching the resort was easy, especially when flying in from the West Coast. “It’s only a two hour flight from Southern California, but you feel so far away and on vacation when you arrive,” says the bride. “It’s only a 12 minute ride from the airport to the resort — very convenient!” Additionally, having a wedding website made it simple for guests to stay updated on transportation information, which Janae says was essential.

Upon arrival to the destination, the bride says meeting with your coordinator is a must to ensure every detail is exactly as you requested. “I wish I had requested to see the items we ordered through the resort when I met with my coordinator a few days before the wedding,”  says Janae.

Overall, the couple believes they spent less on their destination wedding than they would have spent back home. “Local venues were double the price to book than our location in Mexico,” the bride says. “Our destination is so beautiful, we didn’t have to spend money on decor. I had an all-white wedding and the minimal decor at the resort was perfect for the look we were going for.”

While the bride believes the wedding would have been amazing no matter what, the destination wedding made it all the more memorable. “I will never forget vacationing with all of our friends and family for a few days, and then getting to marry my best friend at the end of a fun-filled weekend together,” she says. “Doesn’t get better than that!”

Janae ultimately recommends having fun and being true to yourself on your big day “Don’t try anything new unless you do a trial. I promise you will feel so good and love your wedding photos even more.”

Heirloom Registry Idea

The entire point of a wedding registry is to shop for items you need or might not consider buying for yourself. Those items might be more expensive than you’d budget for or something you’d consider an heirloom. Heirloom gifts are especially more appropriate to be given as a gift from a family member or loved one.

When you consider an heirloom, what comes to mind? Crystal? China? Silver flat wear? What about cast iron? It might not be one you’ve considered, but you should.

Cast iron is making a huge comeback and can be found in any serious cook’s kitchen. No longer are the pans painfully heavy or cumbersome. Butter Pat Industries has been on the scene making cast iron cookware since 2013 and has revolutionized the design. It’s hand cast thin for lighter weight and is designed for the shape of your hands with the handle made to work with the natural angle of your arm for easy handling. The smooth, polished surface allows for food to slip effortlessly, allowing for easy cooking and cleaning.

Don’t worry about scratching your countertops or cooktops as the smooth cast iron cookware is made to work on everything from a glass cooktop, gas range, oven or even on an open fire.

Butter Pat Industries has been recognized by major food magazines and websites, like Bon Appetit, Southern Living, GQ, and Gear Patrol as one of the best modern cast iron skillets you can buy. Also, it’s used by many award-winning chefs as their preferred cast iron skillet.

If you’re unsure about how cast iron fits into your cooking regime, consider that it can do far more than any other pot or pan. Sear, bake, grill, sauté, fry or braise – these are just a few of the ways you can use your cast iron pan.

Register for that heirloom cast iron skillet, especially for those treasured family recipes that will be handed down from generation to generation…now, so will your skillet.

Pans are guaranteed for 100 years and are sourced and casted in the USA.

California by City & Sea

Explore California by city and sea for your big day and experience these luxurious wedding venues.

A Star-Worthy Hollywood Wedding Venue

Imagine Hollywood: Granman’s Chinese Theater, generations of movie stars, bright lights, swaying palms and, of course, iconic Hollywood Boulevard. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, built in 1927, offers history, landmark attractions and stunning views. After a $25 million renovation, the 300 rooms offer several different star quality configurations. The Olympic-size pool is central to 64 of the rooms. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is the setting where movie icons like Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Prince, Charlie Chaplin and Angelina Jolie have gone for some fun in the sun.

When it comes to your wedding day, if you can dream it, they will produce it. The Roosevelt is considered to be a “one-stop-shop” for unique and distinctive weddings. Set your own stage with any number of unforgettable backdrops for your up close and personal photo op. They offer a private, scene-stealing rooftop deck where you can hold your reception under a canopy of stars and 360-degree city views. John Legend recently performed there and was literally singing from the rooftops! You can also select the 2,400 square foot Academy Room where voting was first held for the inaugural Academy Awards. There are floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook Hollywood Boulevard and a 16-foot vaulted ceiling under which you can create your own wedding “screenplay.” TV’s “American Idol” has also held auditions here with Katy Perry.

The Catering Sales & Banquet Operations Director Ernie Carrillo, Jr., who has been at The Hollywood Roosevelt for over 16 years, explained that their clients always say, “You guys just get it.” The Roosevelt may look like a hotel, but it is really an event-planning platform for any dream wedding. They are always thinking outside the box in addition to having everything needed for behind-the-scenes action.

Looking for other gathering places? Head over to The Grove (about 30 minutes from the hotel) that offers a great mix of shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Or, stay close by and enjoy a meal at the hotel’s Public Kitchen & Bar, Library Bar or The Spare Room. You must have the Spiced Milkshake at 25 Degrees restaurant – it’s open 24-hours.

Any time of year is the right time at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for lights, camera, action!

A Serene Santa Monica Wedding Venue

If you’re thinking of a romantic wedding on the beach, but don’t want to forgo a ballroom bash, Hotel Casa Del Mar offers a blend of traditional wedding options with the relaxed ocean air to accommodate anyone looking for an uncompromising fairy tale event.

The resort has been around since the 1920s and all its glitz and glamour offers up a true “L.A. experience.” The hotel provides 129 guest rooms, 16 suites and their sister property, Shutters on the Beach, is right next-door for a change of pace or additional guest accommodations.

Hotel Casa Del Mar’s Mediterranean-inspired lobby is well balanced with an Art Deco flare. Romance here is a never-ending story and the beauty doesn’t stop in the lobby. When I opened the door to my guest room, the natural warm glow of sunlight filtered in and instantly relaxed me. The fragrant fresh flowers were a welcome touch, but the Italian marble bathroom with hydrothermal massage tub was astonishing.

Hotel Casa del Mar is located on Santa Monica Beach and within walking distance to the iconic Santa Monica Pier. If you are looking to do some shopping, then stroll over to Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Place. Feeling adventurous? Meander over to Muscle Beach or Venice Beach where people watching is all the entertainment you need.

The hotel offers an exclusive list of recommended vendors and resources that are eager to assist with any specific wedding needs you may have. You and your betrothed will be the true center of attention, because Hotel Casa Del Mar only caters to one wedding a day.

Opt for a wedding on the beach for the adventurous, romantic couple or host your guests in the Colonnade Ballroom, located right on the beach overlooking the white sand and blue waters. You can’t go wrong with either choice.

What Andrew Bolton Can’t Travel Without

https://nyti.ms/2GyE6As

A Romantic Greece Elopement

Newlyweds Lacey and Chris were enthralled by the idea of a romantic Greece elopement, and before they knew it, the couple was heading to the Greek islands to exchange their vows. “We’ve both been to so many large, traditional weddings and sometimes it seems like the couple is too overwhelmed to enjoy it,” the bride and groom say. “The last thing we wanted was to be too caught up in the little things to miss the big picture of the day.”

Initially, Lacey and Chris considered inviting immediate family to join them in Greece, but ended up traveling on their own because a few close relatives would not have been able to make the trip. “As for the travel there, the airlines were very accommodating to the large wedding dress we carried around,” the newlyweds say. “In general when traveling, folks seemed to go above and beyond when you told them you were traveling for your wedding. There was lots of complimentary champagne.”

To allow loved ones to celebrate their big day with them, the pair held an intimate reception back home following their elopement in Greece. “At the brunch, we were able to share the beautiful photos and stories of our Greece trip. It was a way for those closest to us to celebrate our marriage,” they say. “In the end, we are very glad that we made our own decision.”

While the couple had never visited Greece prior to their marriage, they trusted their planner and felt confident the beautiful setting would be beyond what they envisioned. “We had talked about going to Greece for a while and something about actually getting married there, just the two of us, felt right,” Lacey and Chris say. “On the day of our wedding, every aspect was taken care of and even more beautiful than we imagined.”

The newlyweds believe their dream elopement was a breeze thanks to their wedding planner and the team of vendors she recommended. They admit everyone made them feel comfortable and contributed to a lovely and unforgettable event. “Our guitarist actually learned our song, ‘I Want to Know What Love Is’, for our first dance,” says the couple. “There were so many extra elements of the day that made it memorable.”

Along with their amazing vendors, the couple loved their venue, Sophia Suites, and the staff who worked there. “They have such a tranquil environment, it really made us slow down and enjoy the island,” the bride and groom say. “Although the amenities were lavish, it was still minimalistic so your focus could be on just taking it all in.”

While the pair says they Skyped their team often to communicate ideas and become familiar with one another, meeting them in person was even more fun and rewarding than they had expected. “It ended up being a great cultural experience to have all Greek vendors,” Lacey and Chris say. “Everyone felt like friends.”

The newlyweds believe if their wedding had been held at home, they would have gotten caught up in the details and would not have been able to enjoy the moment like they were able to in Greece. “When you are hosting, you do your best to make sure all guests are enjoying the moment too," says the bride and groom. "For us, being there together was our priority and the rest was just a bonus.”

The bride recommends couples send home the bride’s wedding gown after the ceremony for those planning on traveling afterward. “That dress was heavy and it went to four islands, on four flights and on three ferries,” the bride and groom say. “Surprised it didn’t end up in the Aegean Sea.”

All in all, the couple feels their elopement in Greece was a truly memorable experience they will forever cherish. “A destination wedding allowed us to step away from the stress and really enjoy the day,” they say. “It was such a fulfilling experience that really let us reflect and appreciate one of the best days of our lives. It sounds cliché — but it’s true. There’s nothing we would have done differently.”

Five Places to Visit in Bergen, Norway

https://nyti.ms/2VaRoLx

A Luxury Los Cabos Resort

If you're looking for a luxury Los Cabos resort, Google searching “places to get married in Cabo” may make your head spin. The results that display are endless and can lead you down a rabbit hole. Before trying to decide on what travel review site is right, consider what you want out of your destination wedding experience.

If what you’re after are beautifully appointed accommodations with your own suite and/or villa (at a reasonable price point), sumptuous cuisine and top-notch service, then Cabo Azul may be the place for your special occasion. Located just outside the busier parts of Cabo San Lucas, yet only a 20-minute, scenic drive from the airport, Cabo Azul offers all of this, plus iconic backdrops for your wedding away.

Select from El Corazon (their open air chapel), which seats up to 125 guests, a beachfront celebration at Javier’s, or even dine under the stars on the rooftop deck, El Cielo, which can accommodate up to 150 people. For more intimate weddings of less than 40 people, the resort’s penthouse, with its own private lanai, is also an option. Any of these choices offers unparalleled views of the Sea of Cortez and the service and excellence Cabo Azul is known for.

When considering things to do for your guests while they’re in town, a sunset sail to Land’s End (or locally known as El Arco) is a must. The naturally formed rock arc allows for stunning photos and for you to see the exact point where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. We recommend Cabo Adventures to assist you with your plans. They can provide direct transfers from your resort to the marina and are equipped to handle large groups.

No matter where you wed south of the border, know that you are in good hands. After all, weddings and hospitality in Mexico come as naturally as their handmade guacamole.

A Charming Historic Florida Wedding

Kristina and Bill have family throughout the United States and were living in Seattle at the time of their wedding, so they had lots of locations to choose from for their destination wedding. Ultimately, the couple decided on a St. Augustine destination wedding in Florida, so the groom’s grandfather would be able to attend. “America’s oldest city’s” historic charm didn’t hurt either! While the couple loved their wedding, the planning process wasn’t without its hiccups.

For example, the couple switched venues part way through the process. “We [didn’t visit] the venue in person when we booked,” says Kristina. “I was going off of old photos online, when it had changed and had considerably less foliage.” Once the couple saw current photos of the venue, they ended up switching to The Oldest House Museum for their event, which was beautiful. This is something to keep in mind when booking your venue from afar. Not only should you ensure the photos on their website are recent, but reflective of the state of the venue at the time of year in which you’re getting married.

Unfortunately, the couple ran into another major hurdle – Hurricane Irma. “[Hurricane Irma] was scheduled to hit right on our wedding date, so we did have to reschedule our wedding,” says Kristina. “This lost us quite a few attendants, but the rescheduled wedding was still fantastic – small and intimate. We were able to keep everything as it was and just pick a new date two months later.” The couple clearly rolled with the punches and were able to pull-off their dream destination wedding, despite some challenges which were outside of their control. Inclement weather can definitely play a part in your wedding away and is a factor to keep in mind when choosing your destination.

When it came to décor, the couple is glad they took a simplistic approach. “It would have been too stressful to ship or fly with any extra stuff, so we ended up renting all the décor, which worked out great.” In the end, Kristina and Bill had the charming, historic wedding they were after. We asked the bride if she had any final words of advice for other couples currently considering or planning a destination wedding.

“Keep the wedding small and hire a day-of coordinator, at least. Both of these things made the day stress free and enjoyable. Also, don’t forget about your husband [or spouse] and incorporate them into the planning. My husband was glad to help and took pride in knowing that he had a hand in the planning. Lastly, remember it is just one day. Pick the thing that is most important to you (like photography for me) and splurge on that. The cost of everything can add up fast and add stress on your relationship.”

A Scotland Honeymoon Package

If you’ve been dreaming of rolling green hills, illustrious whisky tastings, gorgeous golf courses and the cool ocean breeze, look no further than this exclusive Scotland package on the Isle of Islay. The Machrie Hotel & Golf Links is offering a “Whisky & Iron” package, which will include a three-night stay with world renowned golfing, single malt tastings at historic distilleries and stunning coastal views.

This package allows guests (not just honeymooners!) to discover all that Islay, also known as “Whisky Island,” has to offer as they experience two private tours at the finest single malt distilleries on the island per day. Guests will be introduced to the recognizable characteristics of Islay’s exceptional whisky as they have up to six tastings over the course of their stay. The bar alone at The Machrie Hotel & Golf Links features a grand collection of whiskys from distilleries on the island.

In terms of the golf experience, this package doesn’t come up short. Guests can tee off in two complimentary rounds on The Machrie’s 18-hole links course, which is located on the big strand in Laggan Bay. The historic Machrie Links is an ideal blend of a traditional, yet modern links course. For other options, guests can also golf at The Machrie's Wee Course, a 5-bay covered driving range, a short game area and an impressive putting course.

Both golf and whisky have origins in Scotland that go far beyond a fun pastime and delectable beverage. Scottish folklore states that golf became an 18-hole game because there were 18 shots in a single bottle of Scotch, meaning they make a perfect Scottish experience when combined.

Aside from golfing and whisky tastings, The Whisky & Iron package includes Scottish breakfasts, two 50-minute spa treatments at the PureGray Spa and complete use of the gym and sauna facilities.

The Whisky & Iron package is available from May 1 to October 13. Rates start at $1,613 per couple in a Classic Double Room and are subject to availability.
