Wedding Dress Shopping from Home
Okay, before you think we are crazy, keep in mind: the whole world is crazy right now. But seriously, finding your perfect wedding dress online is not only completely possible but there are so many resources available to you. If you want to try the dress on at home before purchasing (which we highly recommend), there are plenty of bridal stores offering at-home try-ons and/or those that accept returns and exchanges.
We spoke with Jennette Kruszka, Director of PR & Marketing at Kleinfeld Bridal who encourages brides and bridesmaids to experience their try-at-home program where they can order samples of all different styles and sizes before ordering their dress. If you are pretty confident in your pick but want a safety net just in case the dress doesn’t work out, Kruszka says, “our online assortment of bridesmaid and wedding dresses on kleinfeldbridalparty.com are returnable and if a style does not work -- the customer can return and/or exchange for a different style.” Also, if you’re worried about the timing of your gown, never fear. Kruszka says, “Clients should expect their dresses to arrive as usual and should not panic! Kleinfeld has not missed a wedding since we opened in 1941 and we never will!”
Needing some more direction in your search? Anomalie is a custom dress company that was actually built to be 100% online. They design and customize dresses online through their DressBuilder technology and the stylist team connects remotely with brides to iterate and design each brides’ perfect wedding dress, with 4 billion potential dress options (in sizes 00-30+). In fact, Anomalie reached out to us to make sure all brides knew “all gowns will be delivered at least a month before the wedding, or they will refund 1.5x the price of the gown.”
Maybe you simply want to find the closest existing match to a gown you fell in love with on Pinterest. Azazie is the perfect company to turn to for such a desire. Ranu Coleman, CMO of Azazie says, “For a bridal gown, the silhouette and similar fabric is most important (i.e - a satin dress will have a very different look than an all-over lace dress). Also, think about what type of look you are going for, bohemian vs. traditional and start there and filter your dress by silhouette to find looks that match your style.” Their website also offers the option of a virtual showroom where you can select styles you like and compare different silhouettes and colors.
While the idea of online shopping can seem daunting, remember you are doing this to have fun and to find the gown that makes you feel the way your fiancé sees you.
If you have questions, comments or concerns about wedding dress shopping online, please feel free to message us on Instagram @destinationido. We would love to connect with you!

Fashion Forward: A Riot of Color
A talented team of vendors was inspired by the architecture and lush landscape of Grand Velas Riviera Maya in Mexico. So much so, they put together this colorful, multicultural wedding photo shoot. Crosby + Jon led the way both in producing and directing the shoot. “We united Indian and Western backgrounds by blending unique cultural elements and rituals,” says Regina Atkins and Krista Jon of Crosby + Jon. “The result? A stunning vision for couples who want to embrace their ancestry and combine it with modern flair.”
1: The reception set-up was a sea of contrasting colors and textures, with blue velvet linens from La Tavola Linen and hanging, corded lanterns courtesy of Alquimia Events. The florals and remaining rentals are also courtesy of Alquimia Events, and the stationery is by Moe Paper Co.
2: This couple is regal as they make their way to their ceremony on a horse adorned in red and gold tack. The groom is wearing a slim, black suit and a floral jaimala by Alquimia Events. The bride’s dusty pink gown is by Carol Hannah Bridal, her jewelry by Untamed Petals, and her hair and makeup were done by Zoë Elizabeth. Her dramatic, tasseled umbrella is courtesy of Alquimia Events.
3 & 5: In a stroke of brilliance, the bride’s elaborate mehndi by Loto Mehndi is inspired by the pattern present on the stationery by Moe Paper Co. The bride’s gold accessories by Untamed Petals and heels by Bella Belle Shoes are perfectly complemented by a custom Susie Saltzman ring in a velvet box from The Mrs Box.
4: Ornante, white chairs are placed beneath a traditional mandap for the couple’s ceremony in which they exchange jaimala garlands of red roses. All of the rentals and florals are courtesy of Alquimia Events and our bride is lovely in her Carol Hannah Bridal gown and crown by Untamed Petals.
6 & 7: Vibrant red hues equate to romance in this tropical, poolside setting. “Florist Alquimia Events brought depth to the tablescape with centerpieces of vibrant red florals in brass containers of varied heights,” says Regina Atkins and Krista Jon of Crosby + Jon. Our bride is captivating in her crown by Untamed Petals, gown by Carol Hannah Bridal and hair and makeup by Zoë Elizabeth.
8 & 9: “Amber goblets added the perfect contrast to the lavish palette,” says Regina Atkins and Krista Jon of Crosby + Jon. Rentals were courtesy of Alquimia Events, while the pale blue linens are from La Tavola Linen and the stationery is by Moe Paper Co. Bridesmaids wearing traditional, gold gilded saris are the perfect complement to our couple.
10: The ceremony set-up features a floor lounge of embellished rugs, pillows and poufs from Alquimia Events. The mandap pavilion, also by Alquimia Events, was constructed with rose gold curved beams on a wood platform – all laced with vibrant red garlands.
11 & 12: Our bride is truly a vision in her groom’s eyes. She is carrying a bouquet by Alquimia Events and her hair and makeup were expertly done by Zoë Elizabeth. “We chose this untraditional gown [by Carol Hanna Bridal] because of the embroidered Italian organza and gold beading…saris are typically adorned with gold embroidery to symbolize commitment and spirituality. We [bejeweled] her with a chunni headpiece and tiara by Untamed Petals,” says Regina Atkins and Krista Jon of Crosby + Jon.

Destination Inspired Welcome Gifts
Destination inspired welcome gifts are all the rage and for good reason! Why not get excited about the location you are saying “I do” to your forever? Plus, it gives your guests a souvenir to take back home as a forever reminder of the trip, the fun times they had with you and the birth of your new union. I'm sharing a little bit about Maptote on this blog because, after trying out some products myself, I feel in love with the company and the adorable designs!
If you aren’t already curious to check out Maptotte, the story behind the company will, no doubt, make you hop over to the site ASAP. It all started with Rachel and Michael, the owners and founders of Maptote and their vacation to Germany back in 2006. They noticed every city sold themed cotton reusable totes in the grocery stores, so they purchased a few and gave them to friends and family as souvenirs… Their loved ones when crazy over them! That’s when the couple had the idea for a tote bag for their own beloved city: Brooklyn. “We’d been toying around with the idea of starting our own company, but we weren’t sure what it would be. Then this Brooklyn tote idea came into play, and voila – Maptote was born,” the two say.
The company started with a single product that Rachel and Michael poured their heart and soul into and it grew from there. Now, you can order anything from a rad 100% soy California candle (smells like the ocean, mint, cucumber and watercress) to a 100% cotton NYC makeup pouch (featuring all the staples of life in the Big Apple). “We try to have fun with the design. It’s more about the feel of the city and a local’s perspective, rather than being a completely accurate, technical map. And it’s for locals and visitors alike,” the couple says.
If you love sustainable products like me, you'll be happy to hear that Maptote sources their fabric from US cotton, and it is cut, sewn and printed all in Brooklyn, New York. That means fewer carbon emissions in transportation versus if you were to purchase a product made in China. Not to mention that your guests will have a tote to take with them on grocery runs - that's one less plastic bag used. And, all the while you are stimulating the American economy one little tote at a time.
Maptote can also custom design totes for your destination wedding! Check out some of their past work on custom-designed here.
Grab your honey and get ready to do some welcome bag shopping - first stop: Maptote. Your guests will love you, and you'll love that you contributed to a small business in the process!

NYC Chic Wedding Inspiration
We are lucky enough to be sharing Be Inspired PR's NYC styled photo shoot today! From the sweet elegance of old-New York City to the chic black details incorporated, this shoot has all the inspiration needed for destination city weddings. Being that they worked so hard to present an exact look and feel to the shoot, we thought there are no better people to explain the details of the shoot than the producers themselves. Read their thoughts below:
"When we were given the project of bringing together the best of the best in the New York City and New Jersey area to produce a photo shoot at the ever-fabulous EnVue Hotel, a boutique hotel in Weehawken, NJ, the excitement was through the roof. With sweeping views of the New York City skyline, we knew there were endless possibilities of how we could best showcase the property with the neutral navy and silver hues that were displayed throughout.
We placed our focus for the day on bringing in modern, Art Deco-inspired, elements that would resonate with that sophisticated, suburban city bride. Considerable thought was put in to highlighting these aspects of the property’s architecture and bringing in modern touches to make the shoot stand out. The perfectly drizzling rain created an ideal muted backdrop across the Hudson River, and it was just light enough for us to capture those outdoor shots that every couple dreams about!
Lush white blooms created a distinct contrast against the chic black details that were incorporated, making a perfect affair for the modern and glamorous couple wanting that skyline hotel wedding. Everything from the wording and design of the invitation suite, to the clear acrylic place cards, was kept simple and classic. There are several lenses through which New York can be seen, but what depicts the design of EnVue the most is black, silver and white - classic, timeless and elegant old-New York."

Reasons to Buy Wedding Insurance
The average couple spends as much on their wedding as they would on a new car. And much like cars, weddings come with all sorts of risks – intoxicated guests who get into accidents, major weather events that force cancellations, reception halls that go out of business weeks before the event, wildfires that destroy venues, and the list goes on.
Should any of these scenarios play out, a couple could find themselves having to foot a five-figure bill – and possibly have no wedding to show for it.
That’s where wedding insurance comes in. This type of special event insurance is designed to safeguard a couple’s investment in case they’re forced to cancel or postpone their nuptials because of unforeseen events. It also offers liability protection from injury or property damage. So if a guest experiences a food allergy after eating a slice of wedding cake, or a member of the wedding party slips and falls after having one too many mimosas, the couple would be covered in case someone files a lawsuit.
Wedding insurance has become a more popular purchase in recent years for several reasons:
1. Weddings are expensive.
In 2018, the average wedding cost $24,723, according to The Wedding Report Inc., with couples often laying down nonrefundable deposits with venues, caterers, florists, photographers and other vendors.
2. It’s required.
Wedding insurance may have been considered a luxury at one time. But for many couples today, it’s a necessity. More venues are requiring that couples show proof of insurance before they sign a contract, which may hold the bride and groom liable for bodily injury or property damage. “The industry is making it the norm,” says Kris Jana Turner, owner and CEO of Atlanta wedding and event planning company Kris Lavender. Turner requires all of her clients, vendors and venues to carry wedding insurance.
3. Liability
This is the leading reason couples buy insurance, and it protects couples and their venues in the event of injuries or property damage. Liability coverage is especially important now that couples are opting for more elaborate weddings. “I just had a wedding where they had llamas. And there are weddings where the grand sendoff is done with sparklers. These are all hazards,” Turner says.
4. Cancellations
The need to cancel or postpone ranks as the No. 1 reason why couples file an insurance claim, accounting for 40% of these claims in 2017, according to Wedsure, the wedding insurance offered by R.V. Nuccio & Associates Inc. of Toluca Lake, Calif. Cancellation and postponement insurance generally covers non-refundable deposits on everything connected to the wedding. Weather and natural disasters are among the leading causes of postponed and cancelled weddings, but other reasons include serious illness or injury, a bankrupt reception hall, or a caterer bailing at last minute. Insurance won’t cover a cancellation that’s within the control of the couple if they’re paying for the event. However, some providers do offer a separate “change of heart” provision and cover expenses as long as the person footing the bill had no prior knowledge that the bride or groom was getting cold feet.
5. Other Expenses
Couples spend thousands of dollars on purchases such as wedding rings, dresses, tuxedos, photography, food and honeymoons. So policies can include provisions to cover mishaps such as a lost wedding ring, a misplaced bridal gown or a photographer’s camera — containing the couple’s wedding photos — getting stolen.
Coverage considerations
When it comes to determining how much insurance to buy, couples should consider what their venue’s contract requires them to cover, and how much money they can stand to lose. And the closer a couple gets to the wedding date, the more non-refundable deposits there are, says Robert Nuccio, founder of R.V. Nuccio & Associates Inc. and Wedsure. “Once you get past a certain point, nobody is going to give you your money back. And the industry generally doesn’t take credit cards,” Nuccio says. Providers such as Wedsure will allow couples to purchase wedding insurance up to 24 hours before an event.
What it costs
The average cost of a wedding liability policy is about $125 for $1 million to $2 million in coverage. Adding cancellation insurance and a few other types of coverage brings the average cost to about $400 to $500, Nuccio says. “It’s not a huge expense, considering what people spend on weddings,” Nuccio says. Although couples may prefer to spend that money on a fun purchase like a pair of shoes or cake topper, Nuccio says it’s wise to resist the temptation. “You’d insure your car for $30,000, so why wouldn’t you insure your wedding?” he says.

Saratoga Springs Real Wedding
Kendra and Andy knew a destination wedding was right for them from the start because it could provide the special/quaint location they so desired to say “I do” in. Specifically, the couple chose Saratoga Springs, NY, but not just for the fact that the town fit their criteria, it had much, much more to offer.
“We chose Saratoga Springs because of the many activities within the town (racetrack, golf, museums, pubs and nightlife, etc.) and the stunning scenery surrounding the nearby lake. Additionally, Saratoga Springs was large enough to ensure that vendors would be readily available but not so large that we would need to book vendors 1+ years in advance (we planned our wedding in just 7 short months!),” the couple says.
Initially, Kendra and Andy were looking for a large, dog-friendly house on a lake that would permit them to host a small wedding of just 25 guests. “We were very thankful our vendors were so accommodating and flexible (especially the owner of the house we rented) because our wedding grew to about 75 people,” Kendra says.
Not surprisingly, guests were ecstatic to get explore a region they may otherwise have never visited. In fact, the couple reports that many of them stated again and again that they would be returning to Saratoga Springs in the future to get to know the town even better! The couple was already familiar with the town by the time their wedding day arrived. They had made it a point to travel to the quaint town three different times to visit with a few of their vendors in person. Otherwise, the couple was able to plan all of the rentals and catering with just a few emails and phone calls each.
“Even our flowers and cake were decided on to some degree by emailing pictures of exactly what we wanted and then tailoring our design ideas in person when we visited. When we needed to get certain ribbons to our florist we were able to have the items delivered straight to her,” the couple says.
A perk of choosing to wed at a rented private residence was that Kendra and Andy got firsthand advice from the property owner, Garth, who ultimately helped the couple choose their caterer, Classic Crust, a unique mobile pizza experience.
“He was also a wealth of knowledge regarding local ordinances (loud music, outdoor parties, etc.) and helped us navigate the logistics of planning a backyard wedding,” the two say.
Once over the major hurdles, the focus could be directed to decorating. Kendra and her family let their DIY ideas run wild to ultimately create a fairytale paradise. Their efforts resulted in a copper DIY bar, a flower curtain photo backdrop, hoop wreaths, handmade floral dog collars and leashes, a framed photo collection of loved ones nailed artfully to a backyard tree and stairs which lead down to the dock where the two would say “I do.” The event couldn’t have been tailored more perfectly to represent Kendra and Andy’s love. The couple even purchased a small Japanese Maple tree from a local nursery to replant during the ceremony, symbolizing the laying down of their roots. The final touch, however, was priceless: Andy's father, a pastor for the Oneida Nation, ended up officiating the wedding.
“Hosting a wedding in a unique destination and an even more special venue created a lasting memory…,” Kendra and Andy say, “We will never forget the stunning backdrop created by Saratoga Lake or all the special touches added to our wedding by local vendors and products such as our beloved wedding tree and Saratoga Water.”

Anguilla’s Romantic Hideaway
Anguilla is the ‘destination of destinations’ when it comes to couples searching for the classic, picturesque Caribbean beach wedding, because of the island’s serene romance. For 30 years, Malliouhana, Auberge Resorts Collection has been a destination for those looking to disappear to a place that is known by few but kept idyllic by those who do.
With one-and-a-half miles of sand the color and texture of powdered sugar, NASA reports that the bluest water in the world can be found around the islands of the British West Indies. Everywhere you turn, perfectly landscaped lush flora and fauna abound, tropical birds sing, fruit trees bloom…all to say, there is little-to-no decoration required to create an absolutely breathtaking event.
Décor isn’t the only to-do item Malliouhana can take off your list. Beyond setting the scene for every important moment of your celebration (atop a cliff where Caribbean waters crest below, in a private cove, or an open-air deck with panoramic views of the ocean at sunset), Malliouhana’s wedding specialists take extreme pride in their ability to make every detail impeccable.
Whether your destination wedding is an elopement or a full-fledged affair, Anguilla has everything to offer in island entertainment, along with a noteworthy culinary scene. (Fun Fact: Malliouhana is home to the island’s first fine-dining venue, Celeste.) Wade into the pristine waters of Meads Bay Beach, make life-long island friends at Elvis’ Beach Bar, or just float in Malliouhana’s two-level infinity pool sipping a cocktail via poolside Bar Soleil.
Anguilla is an island that truly offers the best of both worlds, boasting the same amount of fun and adventure as it does relaxation and serenity. When you’re looking for the latter, Malliouhana’s new spa can offer you peace-of-mind in spades. Where better to settle into new married life than with a post-couples massage, hand-in-hand, gazing out into the Caribbean?
One of the best things about Anguilla, and the Malliouhana resort, are the people who come together to create an experience far beyond the typical. Guests return year after year to relish in the island’s welcoming embrace, incredible beauty and local smiles that are so genuine they’re contagious. When you take your wedding to Anguilla, you are guaranteed a celebration unlike any other and when you take your wedding to Malliouhana, you place it in the capable hands of people who have been celebrating love and romance since the time the resort was born. There is no better dream come true for a destination couple, and it’s all found in Anguilla.Photos courtesy of (in order of appearance): Malliouhana, Auberge Resorts (2nd - 9th, 11, 13, 15, 16, 18th - 25th) & Shawn Walters (1st, 4, 10, 12, 14, 17)
