Erin and Kyle knew they wanted a destination wedding. The only question was: where? Kyle wanted somewhere he could golf and Erin wanted to be near a coast. Because both of the couple’s families are spread out, they knew travel would be necessary for almost the entire guest list.
The couple’s families were overjoyed with their decision for a destination wedding.
The pair originally started planning a destination wedding in Hawaii, but soon realized one of the most important factors about the wedding day was convenience for their guests. Having their wedding at Horseshoe Bay, Texas was more accessible for everyone.
Erin and Kyle didn’t visit Horseshoe Bay before making their decision, but Horseshoe Bay Resort included everything the couple was looking for.
An issue the pair had to face during their planning was the construction of the hotel. The couple was told a large portion of the site was going to be undergoing renovations when they booked it. However, Horseshoe Bay worked hard to get it done and finished the construction the morning of our ceremony, the pair says.
The newlyweds described their destination wedding planning experience as great. The bride thought planning was going to be difficult and viewed it as a daunting task. The hardest part for the pair was picking the venue, because they couldn’t decide on a location. Erin and Kyle found it comforting to be away from the site and to plan remotely.
Horseshoe Bay sent the couple a list of preferred vendors. The bride and groom then chose their vendors based on the hotel’s referrals and online reviews. Coordinating with the vendors went smoothly, says the couple.
To maintain a stress-free environment, the bride did not include any DIY projects. Her sister’s friend designed their menus and the bride’s mom printed them.
The travel logistics for the guests didn’t prove to be an issue. The resort was far from the major airports, leading everyone to rent a car because the shuttle service was more expensive. Although renting a car was an extra expense, the guests didn’t mind because the weekend was like a lake vacation for everyone.
The newlyweds say they spent the same amount of money if they had their wedding closer to home. The couple doesn’t regret their destination wedding because it “wouldn’t have felt like such a fun vacation!”
The best advice the newlyweds have is to stress as little as possible and just have fun. “It is an incredible feeling to have so many people that you love all together in the same room,” says the happy couple.
